How do I change the default text box properties?

I am fed up of changing the characteristics of each and every text box I
draw, so I thought I would try to change the default setting instead.
However I have been unable to change anything but the most basic of
characteristics (ie center justify text works).

I would like to:
Change the default text anchor point to 'middle' (from 'top')
Uncheck the 'Resize Autoshape to fit text'

(Basically so I can draw a box the shape and size I want it (as opposed to
how microsoft wants it) and have the text appear central, both vertical and
horizontal).

I am well aware of this option to 'set autoshape defaults' however it seems
to do nothing of the sort, after drawing a text box the way i want it, right
clicking and selecting 'set autoshape defaults' nothing changes! Except that
the text is centrally justified (but only in the horizontal, not the
vertical) the bos dosen;t appear the size I want it, it appears as a single
line (ie still resizing the sutoshape to fit text).

I have even tried setting the deafult colours and lines, but again - nothing
happens!!

I am using powerpoint 2002, this is driving me crazy so any help would be
appreciated!

Thanks

Have a look at http://shapestyles.pptools.com

If all you need to deal with is text boxes, the free demo should take care of
things for you; it'll automate the text anchor portion, though not "Resize"
(I'll need to fix that!)
