Default textbox format

Using PPT 2003

Somehow I seem to have managed to get the default format for inserted
textboxes to be no fill, no border, textbox resizes to text.

I set the textbox to the line & fill colour I want, uncheck the "Resize
AutoShape to fit text" button. Then I select the texbox, right-click and
click on "Set AutoShape defaults".

This does the correct autoshape default setting for all Autoshape types
*except* textboxes.

What have I done to deserve this? Can I change the textbox default format?

Yes, had tried that, and have just tied again following the steps exactly.
Works perfectly for setting the default format of all AutoShapes *except*
textboxes! Arrgghh!

I had to read this and your exchange with TAJ a couple of times, but I think
I see what's happening now.

Textbox defaults don't record lines and fills. They record everything else.

If you need to use a filled / lined textbox, you should be using a rectangle
shape, not a textbox.

When I set up these defaults, I make a textbox and format it like I want.
Then I make an autoshape (usually an oval) and do the same. I add text and a
bullet (if I want a bullet, that is) to the oval and format that also.

Then I right-click the textbox and choose Set AutoShapes Default. This sets
the textbox defaults. These will have no line and no fill.

If I draw a shape at this point, it will also have no line and no fill --
which is a bit problematic!

So then I right-click the oval I formatted earlier and choose Set AutoShape
Defaults. This sets the defaults for shapes other than textboxes.
