How do I change the default setting concerning line spacing?

I'm using the Student and Teacher Edition 2003. In my past version of Works
word processor, I was able to change the default setting to include double
spacing. That way, I wouldn't have to manually change from single to double
spacing. I CAN find how to change other default settings, but not the
spacing setting. It's a small time-saver, but a time-saver nonetheless.

In Word, modify the Normal style to include double-spacing. To do this,
click on Format | Styles and Formatting | Normal | Modify | Format |
Paragraph | Indents and Spacing | Line spacing: Double | OK | check the "Add
to template" box | OK. If you are prompted to save your Normal.dot template
when you exit Word, say yes.

You really don't want to do this. If you change the default spacing of the
Normal style (which is what you are talking about doing), you will affect
every style that is based on Normal (which is almost all of them); it will
also affect envelopes, labels, and pretty much everything you do in Word.
What you should do instead is:

1. Create a new template for the papers you are writing and change Normal to
double-spaced in that template (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CreateATemplatePart1.htm). Note,
however, that double spacing is very "spacey" for the default 12-pt TNR.
Exactly 24 pts is "typewriter" double spacing (3 lpi) and looks nicer. If
you're using this template for school papers, you can also add a header that
includes your name and page number or whatever else your instructor requires
(see http://home.earthlink.net/~wordfaqs/HeaderFooter.htm).

Or:

2. Modify the Body Text style to be double-spaced (or to have Exactly 24 pt
spacing) and remove the 6 pts Space After. Then format the default empty
paragraph in Normal.dot to be Body Text instead of Normal. See
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/styles/ModifyAStyle.html and
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CustomizeNormalTemplate.htm
