No Spacing Default Setting

I'm working in Word 2007. On the styles section the default setting is
normal. I can change the default setting to no spacing. I tried right
clicking on no spacing and modifying it and choosing new documents based on
this template, but when I open another document it still goes to Normal

Note that changing the defaults doesn't affect existing documents, only new
ones created from the template in question.

On the other hand, if you are saying that the changes don't get saved to the
template, make the changes directly in the template; open it as a document
(via the Open dialog box) first.

I just tried saving it as a template, and it doesnt work. I right clicked on
no spacing, went to modify, chose new documents based on this template.
Saved and closed, tried to reuse the template and it still defaults back to
no spacing. I also tried starting a new worksheet, and it still doesnt work.

If you are saying that you want the No Spacing style to be applied to text
whenever you create a new, blank document, then you will have to open
normal.dotm as a file and apply it manually to the blank paragraph. "New
documents based on this template" only transfers the style definition; it
doesn't affect what is applied to text in the template.
