I'm doing an academic paper, and i need 2 inch margins for the abstract, but
1 inch margins for the rest of the paper. How do i change the margins just
for the abstract?

Create two separate documents (if you will be submitting a printed document)
or
Separate the two sections with a section break and format the sections
individually
or
Use paragraph styles with left and right indents

The easiest way (and the only good way if the abstract is to be on a page
with other text or with the same header/footer as the rest) is to use a
style with left and right indents; the built-in Block Text style by default
has 1" indents, which would serve your purpose. Unless you need a different
header/footer on the abstract, I would avoid section breaks as adding
needless complexity.
