How do I change default units from inches.

I have installed to a new machine and the default units are inches.

Where do I find this option?

Start + Control Panel + Regional and Language Options + Regional
Options + Customize.
Set the Language box to English (Australia) (I think that's were you
are), and the settings will change to that region's.
For the specific setting of inches or metric, click on Customize and
change the Measurement System from U.S. to metric.

"regional settings" for other OS.
