How do I change cell that contains a formula to an actual number

I would like to use the results of a formula in a cell as an actual number.
Any help would be appreciated?

copy the cell and use 'Edit - Paste Special - Values'

An easy way to do this is when editing the formula just type cntl+"=". It
immediately changes the formula to text. Hit escape to bring back the formula
or hit enter to accept the value.
