How do I center a text box

When inserting a new text box, is there any way to force it to the center of
the slide? I want teh center of the text box to center on the page. I have
tried the POSITION tab of the format text box, but centers teh top left
corner of the text box.

Or have I discovered why there are slide layouts with predefined text
placeholders?

Click on the textbox,
then on the bottom toolbar, click Draw > Align or Distribute > Relative to
Slide.
Click Draw > Align or Distribute > Center.
Click Draw > Align or Distribute > Middle.
