hi, sometime when i open a file it asks "do you want to update info from
another file" then if i accidentally click yes, it takes you to
explorer to ask you to select the file, then there seems no way to then
cancell that selection,,,,

does anyone know how to cancel the selection?

thanks

The problem is due to links, especially links to other files (workbooks)
which may have been since deleted / moved elsewhere to another location.

(Think) the number of times you have to click "Cancel"
at the "File Not Found" dialog
is the number of workbooks that the file was originally linked to.

You can see the names of these workbooks appear successively
in the "Filename:" box as you click "Cancel" successively.
(So ... you got to continue clicking "Cancel" .... to open the file)

To get to grips with these "lost" links, would suggest you try
MVP Bill Manville's excellent FindLink utility

It's available at MVP Stephen Bullen's page:

ahhh thanks alot, i had a Vlookup funtion for about 200 cells, and
couldnt get out except to right click and "end" MSexcel
