How do I cancel edits in a word document?

I have scanned Docs with many old Scots words in it. When I try to paste
further copy I get the message "Too many edits" and cannot paste. How can I
overcome this?
 
Save your document. Close it and reopen. The F5 key will return you to the
location of your last edit.
