How do I access system files (like My documents) from outlook 200.

In Outlook 2000 I was able to add shortcuts to system folders (like My
Documents) to the Folders List so I could drag and drop e-mail messages
directly into them. This saved the bother of using the Save As function and
having to drill down to find the target folder. In My Documents I have a
"Customer" folder and inside it a specific folder for each customer. I want
to easily send a message directly to such a folder.

I have run out of ideas (and Help topics) for accomplishing this. Does
anyone know how to do this in Outlook 2003?

I think, unfortunately, they removed this function from 2003.

I have tried every way I know how and Outlook 2003 seems to be a closed
program. Maybe with a little pressure we could get a fix added.

Hi,
You can drag & drop messages into a windows explorer pane or to "my
documents" shortcut on your desktop.

thanks, jaf. That is a great workaround and is helping quite a lot.
Nevertheless a direct link to the file system WITHIN Outlook would be a big
help.

Jerry,
Thanks for the reply. It does seem like a feature that many people would
want. Did you see the reply from 'jaf'? Dran & Drop to Explorer windows does
help.

I'm Outlook 2002, system files are accessed via Other Shortcuts in the Outlook
Bar. It contains My Computer and My Documents by default.

Is this not a feature in Outlook 2003?

Yes, it's possible to do the same in Outlook 2003. However, this isn't quite
the same thing. It used to be possible to put links to system folders
directly in the Mail section. This allowed dragging a message from any Mail
folder directly to the desired system folder without having to open it from a
shortcut. The system folders appeared in the All Mail Folders list just like
any other Mail location.

What you suggest does work. It just takes more of those nasty mouse clicks,
it's an efficiency thing.

Thanks.

It is possible to add a system folder to the Outlook Bar. For example, as a test
I selected the subfolder "My Received Files" from the listings in My Documents,
then I added a link (R-click & select) to it the Outlook Bar. All I had to do
then was drag & drop this link from Other Shortcuts to Outlook Shortcuts. It was
now accessible from the regular mail section so that any mail item could then be
copied or moved to it.

Hope this helps.

But Outlook 2003 doesn't have the Outlook Bar and the ability to reference

Thanks for the feedback. I'm at a disadvantage since I'm running OL2002.

I did notice that the slipstick.com website had info about reverting to the
classic interface, including starting with the shortcuts list displayed, but I
can only assume that this wouldn't help the OP either.

See this:

Thanks. It appears that this nifty feature was eliminated with Outlook 2003.
I'll have to settle for the more indirect approach outlined earlier, unless
someone else has discovered a better plan.

Brian,
Sounds like you're sure that they have eliminated to access to file system
objects from OL2003. I wonder why?

Does anybody the easiest way to copy OL messages to OneNote? This may, in
the end be a better way to manage em messages.
