How do I accelerate my startup process?

Whenever I boot up, it seems to take a long time to get into windows.
I deleted temp files, did a dick cleanup defrag etc. but it seems to
take about 2-3 minutes still. I have an Athlon Thunderbird 1.3 mhz
system.

A 1.3 ghz system is not going to be blazing fast on startup.

One thing you didn't mention is how much RAM your system has. If it
has less than 512 mb then that could very likely be a good part of the
reasons for your slow startup. In that case an increase in RAM to at
least 512 mb would help.

Are you loading any "computer killer" items at startup? Some
applications are known to drag down a computer's performance,
comparable to tying a 2 ton block of concrete onto the back of your
car. Norton/Symantec products and Zone Alarm firewall are two
examples of widely used applications that do this. There are
alternatives that are as good or better than these products and which
do not drag down the computer anywhere near as much.

Good luck

Start > Run > msconfig and check on what's being started automatically when
you start Windows. Some items may not be required to start all the time. You
can uncheck those not needed.

delete the contents of the PREFETCH folder and reboot.
just the contents not the folder.
its under WINDOWS.

Thanks, I deleted a lot of non-essential startup items as it is. I
also went to the services tab and looked at the services running and
also clicked on hide services to see more. I don;t recognize a lot of
the processes running but some seemed not required. Do I uncheck them?
