How did I set parallel port mode in XP, not in BIOS?

A couple of weeks ago, I found a posting somewhere that said something like
"This is how Microsoft says to set the port", followed by instructions on
where to click in 98 or 2000 (I forget which).

I did the clicking, adapting to XP, and it worked nicely. I changed the
port from ECP to SPP, according to the Ports listing in Device Manager. It
reads" Printer Port (LPT1)". But in the BIOS (Award), the port is ECP+EPP.

Now I want to get Device Manager to agree with the BIOS, but I don't
remember what I did, and I cannot retrace my google steps! (#%@#!!!)

Does anyone know what mouse clicks can change the "Ports" entry?

Parallel ports should be able to be redetected in XP. In Device Manger,
delete the parallel port and reboot

During the boot-up, access the BIOS and change the parallel mode to
'SPP'/'Centronics'/Standard' and save the configuration. Reboot and let Xp
start normally.
