How come pasted images disappear behind the footer?

I've pasted 3 images from one Word document to another. Due to their size
(?), the first of three images appears toward the bottom of a page (I have no
problem with this). But, I thought the other two images didn't get pasted,
because I couldn't see them. They weren't on the next page at all. But when I
deleted the first image, the second image appeared. When I deleted that one,
the third appeared.

I tried it again, and dragged the corners of the images to make them MUCH
smaller (smaller than acceptable for my document), and they all appear. But,
again, as I start to increase their size, they "disappear" behind the footer,
and the next page's header.

Any suggestions?

Select each picture in turn and set it to inline with text (no floating
around text). Then they cannot be pushed off the body text area as easily.
