I recently bought a new computer and the problem seems to be unique to it only.
The buttons show and work correctly while viewing my web site on other
computers. Is there a setting somewhere?

The icons appear to be clear boxes with a small "x" to the left.

Check your security settings. If too high, they will block the images from
downloading.

New computers do not come with Java Virtual Machine installed due to a recent lawsuit settlement
between Sun/Java and Microsoft.
For that reason most people have stopped using Hover Buttons.

You can download and install java from here: http://java.sun.com/ but it won't help other people
that don't have it.

Many users of Windows XP / IE 6 no longer have the ability to view Java Applets as MS no longer
distribute the JVM. User have to go to the Sun Java web site to download and install the Sun JVM.
Best to switch to use JavaScript mouse over images or plain text or CSS links.

hover buttons use java applets - Windows XP doesn't come with Sun Java or
Microsoft Java Virtual Machine (I assume your new computer does have Windows
XP).
