How cancel download in background?

For the past few days, every time I connect to the internet an
icon (the Microsoft logo on a globe) pops up in the notification
area (systray) that says "Downloading updates . .%" when you hover
the mouse over it. The percentage increases ever so slowly (41%
in two days), which makes me suspect the download is SP2.

Since I ordered SP2 on CD a week ago, I am trying to cancel this
background download but can't figure out how. Neither
right-clicking or left-clicking on the icon brings up anything.
On the Windows Update page I couldn't find anything on how to
cancel the download in progress.

Any ideas or pointers will be appreciated.

Thanks,
George

P.S. Pls. reply in ng; e-mail address is invalid.

Change your Auto Update settings in System Properties to Notify me but don't
download or install.

Mary, thanks for the idea, but that setting was already checked.

Any other suggestions welcome.

For those coming across this thread in a future Google search,
here is how I solved the problem:

Right-click My Computer / Manage / In left pane: Services and
Applications / Services / In right pane: double-click
Automatic Updates / Startup type: Disabled.
