How can you reset the Activation Code?

Jeff Ingram

Hello,

I have a friend that was having problems with there computer and XP. She
tried to reinstall XP but with another's XP cd. Her computer didn't come
with an XP CD, so she borrowed a friend's cd. She entered the Product Key
and now when she booted up it asked to activate XP. She did, and now it has
locked her out of XP since that Product Code was already in use on another
computer I assume.

Is there a way to reset that activation code?

Thanks,

Jeff

Nope. A copy of XP can only be activated on one computer at a time. Your
friend will have to go out and buy her own copy of Windows, but first check
to see if her computer came with a recovery partition, which contains all
the software that was installed on her computer at the factory.

No. The Product Key that came with your friend's computer
will only activate when used with the computer manufacturer's
restore method. Your friend will have to contact the computer
manufacturer and request a Windows XP restore CD and then
reinstall.
