How Can User A Hide His Files From User B?

As user A, I want to hide my files from user B, another user on my
laptop (using WinXP Home).
When I get into the user B's account and do Properties/Hide etc I get
a message "access denied."
The fact that I can successfully hide my files when operating as user A
tells me the problem has
to do with user - administation. But,

Correct.

The above is confusing. If you want to hide _your_ files why are you trying
to change the properties on user B's files?

The fact that I can successfully hide my files when operating as user A
tells me the problem has to do with user - administation.

What problem? Obviously you can mess with your own files and not other
peoples. That's the whole point of user accounts.

If you want to change user B's files then you need to log in as User B or as
an administrator. Note that if User B is an administrator you may need to
log in as THE administrator.

If you want to change user A's files then you need to log in as User A or as
an administrator. Note that if User A is an administrator you may need to
log in as THE administrator.

Use Explorer to locate the folder you want to hide.

Right click > Properties > Sharing ...

Maybe you can password-protect the files you don't want User B to see.

Thank you CWatters, Z, & Bearman for your replies.

You-all motivated me to re read winXP Help and the simplest solution
turned out to be: put the files I wish to be "hidden" into User A's My
Documents folder. Since I (User A) need a password to function as User
A -- and see/use my files in my My Documents -- these are safely hidden
from User B, who doesn't know my password. So all I did was to cut and
paste selected folders and their subs into My Documents. This solution
works great.

So thanks again for getting my brain working.
