How can I uninstall a hotfix

Guest

Hello,
I am trying to figure out how I can tell what hotfixes for ie6 I have
installed and then how I would remove a particular one. The IE hotfix
KB918899 is possibly the cause of my issue.
Thank you,
Mark

Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.

I would need to be very certain about my decision before uninstalling a
hotfix. Why not tell us what your issue is?

A quickmanswer is go to Control panel >> Add/Remove Programs click on Show
all Updates on the top and Hit F5 to refresh and then scroll down and locate
the Hotfix and remove it.
Hope this what you are after.

It has to do with the browser closing on users when they are using Microsoft
CRM 3.0. I found one post with similar behavior in the MSCRM newsgroup and
removing the hot fix worked. Here is some dialog I copied from another
thread:
This is almost certainly due to the IE hotfix KB918899. To reslove the
problem, either remove the hotfix (and ensure AutomaticUpdates doesn't
reapply it), or apply the fix in the following link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...31-01f3-48e8-9a58-d701d2e60c1d&displaylang=en "

I was trying to figure out if these users had it installed and did not know
where to look. I did not see any Internet Explorer specific hotfixes in my
Add/Remove Programs and I am fairly certain I have some installed.
Thanks,
Mark

Please...to get help on a newsgroup you need to ask a specific, detailed
question. You haven't told us anything that can diagnose the problem.

Hi Ted,
Thanks for your help. My real issue was trying to locate an ie hotfix and
how to remove. I had diagnosed the problem but needed to know the above info
to implement it. The behavior the users were experiencing is that when they
used the advanced find feature or switched between Accounts and Contacts is
Micrsoft CRM 3.0 that the browser would shut down on them.
Thanks,
Mark

Windows version(s)?

918899 is a Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer, not a hotfix.
It was released on 08 Aug-06. If it's installed, it should be listed in
Add/Remove Programs (Tip: check "Show Update" at top right) as, e.g.,
"Security Update for Windows XP (KB918899)".

[Note that Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (922760) was
released today, 14 Nov-06; installing it will replace 918899 in Add/Remove
Programs.]

918899 was re-released twice, once on 24 Aug-06 and then on 12 Sept-06, but
only for /some/ Windows versions. If the machines in question are these
versions, either Automatic Updates or Windows Update would have offered the
re-released version.

One way to tell is to use filever (from the XP Pro Support Tools)
in a cmd window. You may need to see the File Version in order to know
if you have the QFE version or the GDR version.

E.g. you could enter this pipeline under current directory %windir%\System32

filever /v mshtml.dll | find "FileVersion"

Note that the version of mshtml.dll in the hotfix is given as 6.00.2900.2975

The version of it given in the latest cumulative security update is 6.00.2900.2995

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms06-067.mspx
[-] Security Update Information
[-] Windows XP Service Pack 2 (all versions)...
File Information

You would have to test whether the GDR version of it at that level integrates
the fix that you are looking for. E.g. it might not since your problem is not
exactly a security issue. I would expect though that at least the QFE version
at that level would supersede your hotfix.

Good luck
