How can I set the print handouts default setting in a presentatio.

I'm trying to create a presentation template and want to set the handout
default to print 2 slides per page. I've tried to do this in the handout
master of the .pot file and then save it - but when I open a new
presentation, the default handout number is 6 per page again. What am I doing
wrong? Thanks.

You can set printing defaults per presentation, but not in templates or the
PowerPoint application as a whole.
