How can I send to hotmail?

I recieve an error 550 when I try to send email to hotmail, yahoo and
myspace.com addresses from within Outlook. I AM NOT accessing my hotmail
account from Outlook (which seems to be the only problem people have!) I use
Outlook to access my @charter.net email, which it does beautifully, except
that Outlook prevents sending/recieving to these types of accounts. I have
added these domains to "safe sender" and "safe recipient" lists, to no avail.
When I access the @charter.net account online, I AM able to send/recieve.
Help?

Configure your SMTP account settings to use authentication and try again.

Tried and still no success. The following is the message which is quickly
returned after hitting send:
Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: test
Sent: 4/3/2006 6:53 PM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'(e-mail address removed)' on 4/3/2006 6:53 PM
550 #5.1.0 Address rejected.

But thanks for your quick response! Any other ideas or suggestions to
ensure I configured correctly? According to the "Test Account Settings"
button, I have!
