I want to save a powerpoint slide as an animated .gif so that i can use it
when making movies, but each time i save it as, all it does is show the plain
text. How can i save it so that it shows the animation?

The only way I know to get an animated GIF out of powerpoint... is to use something like Camtasia...to capture your show
and save it as a movie file. I'm pretty sure camtasia has a save to animated gif feature. See
http://www.powerpointbackgrounds.com/powerpoint-to-video.htm for the principles.

It would be nice to just "File > Save as > animated gif" from powerpoint...but you cannot
