how can i remove ms word edit characters from emails i am writing

I don't know what I hit today but while writing emails I turned on some
function that looks like ms word editing characters, if you are fixing a
resume in word all the funny symbols like a backwards P with two lines in the
vertical part. There is a . between every word.
 
Mark... You are using word as e-mail editor, and you seem to activate the non
printed caracter:
Open an new mail; check if the Standart Toolbar is available (if not: View |
Toolbars | Standart) Now you see the same Toolbar as in Word. Deselect the
show/ hide P icon on the Standart Toolbar (if not visible make sure you see
all icons of the toolbar by clicking the two arrows down at the end of the
toolbar)

Click the Pilchrow mark (the backward "P") in the toolbar to turn off the
editing characters.
