Hi

Microsoft has a tool for this that currently is in beta. Here is a previous
post by Andrew Jenks [MS]:

Jimmy may I ask why you want to do this? The reason I ask is that the Microsoft VM has a file in particular that is a system file in Windows 2000 and it is protected by System File Protection. It is called msjava.dll. I suppose if you wanted to disable Microsoft VM then you could just run regsvr32 /u msjava.dll. Of course that leaves the dll there but it's unregistered so what's the difference? It's not a lot of space it is taking up. And it's there to be re-registered if the System "thinks" it's necessary.

Not for me. Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 Microsoft Windows 2000 =
Server SP3

I don't know. This one has me baffled. I am going to try on a different machine.

Looks like it needs Internet Explorer 6. I don't have that in here so I am never given the option to "install the certificate." I suppose I could hunt around in here to determine how to make that work right.

This CA Root certificate is not trusted. To enable trust, install this certificate in the Trusted Root Certificate Authorities store. Issued to www.beta.microsoft.com Issued by Microsoft Secure Server Authority Valid from 12/1/2003 to 11/30/2004. Install Certificate... | Next | Place all certificates in the following store | Browse... | Trusted Root Certifications Authority | OK | Next | Finish | Do you want to Add the following certificate to the root store? (Jeeze No I'm just letting my cat hit the keyboard) ... | Yes | The import was successful | OK | OK | Do you want to Proceed? | Yes | 'X' out of Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP1 | Right-click IE icon on desktop | Properties | Content | Certificates... | Intended purpose <All> | Intermediate Certification Authorities (BOING!) | select www.beta.microsoft.com | Export... | Next | PKCS # 7 | Include all... | Next | Browse... | Name | Save | Next | Finish | OK | Close | OK | copy the pk7 file to floppy bring over here | right-click IE icon on desktop | Properties | Content | Certificates... | Import | A drive | to Intermediate Certification Authorities | try link:

Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer

Torgeir you are determined to make me reinstall IE 5.5 SP2 now aren't you? I tried bringing the certificate in here it didn't work. I have the certificate in it looks OK but no dice. I'm going to wait until the windows update site gets its bugs out and my Messenger service starts to work again before I start down that road.

OK I fixed it Torgier. Didn't require reinstalling IE but I was getting pretty close to that. It turns out there is a certificate that expired on January 7, 2004. It is in the Intermediate Trust section of the Certification Manager using the local computer. I was able to update that expired certificate. I also brought a iuident.cab from machine that didn't have the trouble. I also downloaded Microsoft's codesign authenticode for IE 5 and ran chktrust iuident.cab. This last installed the certificate for the Windows Update site.

Then I tried your link.

It worked. No request for a certificate as the one I put in previously must be correct. It had everything to do with this expired certificate it seems.

Glad to hear it :-)
