How can I reduce the complexity of my site?

Hi,

This relates to my earlier post ("FP limit of 1GB ...", 24/7/2007), which
prompted me to think about how to simplify my site as the number of files and
links seems to be the main issue.

How can I reduce the complexity of my site (www.aaltenvoogd.com) while
retaining the same navigation structure and content?

At the moment each page is in a separate HTML file, and I use DWT's for the
layout and design of my site. I like the flexibility of being able to edit
the pages in FP in the same way as Word, and I also like the fact that the
contents of each page are easily accessible.

I don't want to break the site into separate subwebs since I want to be able
to manage it as a single entity.

I'd be grateful for any help!

I don't see how you can simplify it any further.

It seems as least complex as it can be, being that your content is quite
extensive ......the way you have it seems fine. It is a lot to maintain,
but if most of the info doesn't change that much, there wouldn't be that
much maintenance to do on it.

All I could see you needing to do, is adding a new page for your new
travels, or adding to existing pages, if you revisit a country you've been
to.

Perhaps, then I can suggest that you break up the pages into say the
countries (or even continents) you've visited eg - from a quick look around
the site, I don't know if you have already done that.

South America
Asia
North America
Europe
etc.

Then under those broad headings, break down into regions/countries/provinces

In my opion, I think it is OK as it is.

Many thanks for having taken a look at that Andrew. I appreciate your feedback.

When I try to publish my site my web host's server times out, irrespective
of the number of files to be uploaded. I think this is because of the many
links and files that have to be processed. My web host is aplus
(www.aplus.net) and I am, on the whole, pretty satisfied with them, and am
already on a pretty advanced hosting plan which should easily cope.

I'm still stuck but don't really know what to do. Any ideas at all?

The type of internet connection (ISP) do you have, as that can have a impact as well.

I'm on a normal broadband connection (BT) which has been fast and reliable,
for large up/downloads, video streaming and more, so don't think it's my
connection.
