Is your solution specific to Vista?

I ask because I tried using WME (Windows Media Encoder) to convert an MPG
to MV on XP and it told me that I did not have some component (I believe it was
a missing codec, but since this happened some time ago, I can't remember the
exact mesasge, so I'd rather not go out on a limb and say "codec" right off).

From what I hear, Vista does provide an MPG codec, so it'll probably be a
totally different outcome with this OS.

Yes, you'd need an mpeg decoder installed, this often comes with your dvd
playing software such as windvd or powerdvd.
