Moviemaker crashes

I wanted to add to my movie a small piece of footage from my photo camera.
It was MPEG so I downloaded Virtual Dub and followed Papa John's instructions
to convert it to AVI, using the Panasonic DV codec and resized to 720x480 and
then saved it as AVI. I was then able to import this small piece into my
movie. The problem I have is that Moviemaker works fine until it gets up to
that piece of movie, and as soon as it starts to play, it comes up with the
message that Moviemaker has encountered a problem and needs to close. If I
open the movie and start playing from that spot, the message comes up
straight away or I can start playing the movie from the start and the
message won't come up until I hit that piece. I hope someone has an idea.

As the DV-AVI file goes into Movie Maker, you might then save the clip as a
high quality WMV file and use that in the project instead.
