How can I page number an attachment to a word document

I have a lengthy attachment to a word document which is not a word document.
It is a series of exhibits which I would like to sequentially number (like a
Bates Stamp numbering 001, 002 etc.). Is there a way to use Word to do this?

How do you plan to integrate the attachment into the Word document?

If the exhibits are pictures, you can use Word's caption feature to provide
numbered captions.

If the exhibits are all part of a single stand-alone file, however, then it
will be difficult to superimpose Word's numbering onto it.

A bit more detail would enable a more precise answer.
