How can I obtain a hotfix that isn't available through Windows Upd

I'm having some issues with audio and MIDI performance on a dedicated music
production system based on a dual-core AMD Althlon64 system running Windows
XP Professional (32-bit) OEM. I've did some research and found out that
various other people have the same problem which were fixed for them by
applying the following hotfixes...

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=896256
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/835730/

Unfortunately these hotfixes can only be obtained on request but because of
my OEM license I cannot contact Microsoft directly about this (at least not
through and according to the Microsoft Support site). Is there any way that I
can receive these hotfixes by other means?

p.s. I've tried contacting my PC vendor but they couldn't/wouldn't help me
and said that I should contact Microsoft instead.

Typically you should still be able to contact PSS directly. You may need to
provide payment information, but you won't be charged if they only provide
you with a hotfix. Who is your OEM? Most major OEM's (HP, Dell, etc), have
support agreements with Microsoft to provide MS hotfixes to their customers.

I bought my computer from a smaller "local" OEM and they can't or won't help
me out with this. Do you have any idea how I can contact Microsoft Support
by email? The website doesn't mention any email address.

You have to get it directly from MS.

[From MVP Kelly Theriot]
Call Microsoft Professional Customer Service @ 1-800-936-4900 (this line
is 24/7), there is an option for hotfix. A rep will email you a link to
the fix.

I am having the same problem aftermath had. I bought my computer from Dell
and just spent 30 minutes arguing with them on the phone.

I found through the Microsoft site that I needed a hotfix. However, it was
not available on the web. I tried to contact Microsoft, after entering my
product ID number. I was told that it's an OEM version, and that I had to
contact my computer manufacturer. I called Dell, told them that I was
referred back to them by Microsoft, and that I needed a Hotfix. They said "we
don't have access to hotfixes. You have to get them from Microsoft." I told
them Microsoft bounced me back to them. So I'm between a rock and a hard
place. DOES Dell have access to hotfixes???? If not, how do I get them from
Microsoft? What URL or phone number do I call?

I think I'd also need to talk with a real person long enough to be able to
ask a few questions to ensure that this is indeed the correct hotfix before
applying it.

We paid extra to Dell for their premium support. Lots of good that did us.
How do I get these kinds of hotfixes? <pulling hair out>

Thanks,
//Gary

Use the telephone. If you are wrong about needing a hotfix then the call will cost you.

Hi,

For USA, use phone number 425-635-3311 to obtain hotfixes for WinXP...

I think that option was more than obvious. The issue is WHO is repsonsible
for support here: Microsoft or Dell? Some here are saying Dell has hotfixes,
where they say they do not. DO THEY and are they just jerking us around?

THANK YOU! Do you happen to know if Dell is SUPPOSED to provide hotfix
through their support channel?

It doesn't matter. Call Microsoft and get the hot fix. I got a hot fix
for a client's Dell computer just last week.
