how can i get windows to detect my unread emails on the welcome s.

I notice on a friends XP that when they are in the welcome screen it shows up
that they have unread email messages. How can I do this on my email, link it
to windows so it detects my emails? Is it something I can do or not? Any help
would be much appreciated.

this is an access newsgroup. you need to direct that
question to outlook. and this is a new feature offered by
xp so it may not be availabe to older windows versions.
