How can I freeze the styles in Word?

Hi,

I have a problem with the styles and formatting tool in word (version 2003).
When I write a document, I apply my own formatting, e.g. I change normal,
heading 1, etc.
The problem appears when I send a document to other people: then Word
applies their styles to my document, resulting in a very poor appearance.
I have tried to protect the formatting, and to protect the whole document,
it doesn't change anything.

Does anyone know how to "freeze" the styles?

Thank you,

Marion.

Thanks for the answer.
However, that's exactly what I did the first time, and I put a password too,
but it doesn't work. I tried again with less formatting styles, but the
result is the same.

I suspect that you have your document set to update styles from the attached
template. Tools > Templates and Add-Ins... You almost always want to leave
this unchecked. The web page that Suzanne refers you to give more
information about this.
