I meant to disable shutdown because I generally hibernate the pc and only need to shutdown when required for security updates, etc.
also when i use the shutdown command with a timer it logs me off and then waits for the specified time to be over and then it shutdowns my pc.
That is Abort a shutdown (that has been initiated).
In XP Pro there is a control over who can do it in a run of gpedit.msc,
on the Computer Configuration - Windows Settings - Security Settings -
Local Policies - User rights assignment
'Shut Down the System' is usually permitted to Administrators only, but
you could adjust this to something more specific.
If doing so I would also make sure that in Control Panel - Power options
the Advanced page 'When I push the Power button' is set to 'Do Nothing'
I do understand binary. I learnt it in grade 6 (too early?).
But when I write in the command prompt shutdown -a it writes the application cannot be started because windows is shutting down ... or the applcation cannot be started because 0x000000(some number) cannot be initialized or something like that.
I dont have win xp pro but i have win xp home. I thought that win xp pro will run faster so i opted for that. But i cannot run gpedit.msc (very imp) and many other functions so. So I am thinking to install xp pro in a new partition.
And pushing the power button set option will not disable shutdown.
And Special Thanks to Kelly for helping me
