i want to move messages from the inbox to various PST files that i have
opened in outlook also. but i don't need the inbox or sent items or files
that i have in outlook already. is there anyway to delete these unused
folders or how do i get the pst files created without these unused folders?
Thanks, charlie

The Inbox and Sent Folders are OL default folders
Rules move msgs from Inbox or Sent, in which the mail origonally resides.

I probably didn't make my question clear. I have opened several additional
PST files. They all include : inbox, sent items, junk email, outbox and
drafts. These items are cluttering up my mail folder view. How can i get
rid of this unused items? thanks, charlie

Version of outlook?

If you create a new pst using the file, new, outlook data file menu, it
should only have deleted and search folders.

I did not create new folders for this new year, i simply copyed the old pst
files because i didn't want to lose the sub items in them and have to
re-create everything. i guess i can live with the unused folders like i did
last year. i was simply trying to simplify my life with outlook... oh
well... charlie
BTW, can if i create a new pst can i simply copy the headings from the old
pst file without copying 300 meg of data to go through to delete all the old
messages? charlie
I am using Outlook 2003 on a dsl line.

if you create a new pst you can drag folders from the old pst to it all
contents of the folder, including subfolders, will move. It's slower than
making a new pst for the new yr though. :)

I thought if the pst was not the default pst that you could just Delete the
default folders from it (since its not default anymore and doesn't require
them) - but you may need to use a utility like Outlook Spy to delete them.
As long as the pst is not used as the default delivery location, outlook
will not create the missing folders. You do need to keep Deleted items (and
Search folders if your version supports them), but all other folders can go.
