How can I create a customized tab for company templates in Word ?

Guest

I am interested in creating a tab for company-specific templates in Word.
Does anyone out there have any suggestings or information that might help. I
have already tried checking in "Options" to determine the location of the
user templates. However, that only includes some templates from Avery and
does not include any of the standard templates that are available to me once
I am using the application. I sure hope someone can shed some light on this
one for me.

Well--thanks for all your help.

Put them in a separate folder in the Workgroup templates folder. The name of
the folder will be what appears on the tab. The templates that come with
Word are not in the user templates folder or in the workgroup templates
folder. To a certain extent they are created on the fly. Do not try to find
them and store your templates there; it won't work. For more on the
different kinds of templates, tabs on the file new dialog, and locations of
templates folders see http://addbalance.com/usersguide/templates.htm.

Within the standard templates folder you already located, create a new
subfolder. Give it the name you want on the tab in the File > New
dialog. The tab will appear only after there is at least one template
stored in the subfolder.

Most of the Microsoft-supplied "templates" aren't really files at all;
they're stored within the Word code and only imitate files unless you
modify something in them.
