I would like to save a word document so no changes can be made to it. I
tried right clicking and under Properties selecting Read Only, but it does
not work. Am I doing something wrong or is there another way to ensure
changes will not be made to my original document?
Thank you!

Turning on the Read Only option doesn't prevent editing, but it does prevent
saving the changed document with the same file name. If you try to simply
"Save", Word will ask you for a new file name.

If you have Word 2003 or 2007, you can use the Protect Document command (on
the Tools menu in 2003, on the Review ribbon in 2007) and prevent editing of
part or all of the document, allowing exceptions for certain people if
needed. This isn't available in earlier versions.

Ultimately any document that you allow someone to see can be recreated and
edited. You can only make things a little more difficult.
