I have created hover buttons previosly without trouble. Now when attempting
to update an existing site I have found that when I preview the page
containig the hover buttons that the buttons do no appear. Insta there is a
rectangle wirh n x in the uppder left corner. I have tried thi on both a
Windows2000 and an XP Pro system.

Any ideas?

Thank you -

Hover buttons are Java, which requires JVM (Java Virtual Machine) to be installed on your (and your viewer's) machines. It is no longer distributed by MS (due to lawsuit with Sun). You can download it from Sun's website so you can see your Java buttons, however,,,,your viewers are unlikely to do this. So....don't use Java Hover buttons??

Again a common FAQ on this group.

The hover buttons use Java Virtual Machine (it is not included in Windows
XP) - the user will have to download it from Sun Systems, therefore it is
adviseable to choose an alternative for hoverbuttons - "Rollover" buttons
for instance, done with javascript/dhtml. (javascript is *not* the same
thing as "java").
