Houston We Have A Problem.. Ok I made 2 posts within the last week about Dual
Booting. I got some great feedback on what to do. When i tried to install win
XP on my D: drive it locked everything up. I am partially.. Noooo fully
responsible for this. I have my winxp copied to my D: drive in a folder named
winXp. What I did was,I clicked on the setup tab to install win XP. it
started without any problems and as it started going through the setup I
noticed it said winxp upgrade. I didnt realize until it was to late. It did
give me the option to go to an advaned tab where I could set the drive I
wanted to setup on. I set it,so it would set up on the D: drive. thinking
that was what I was suppose to do. as in the instructions I was givin. Well
when it asked to reboot I did. Now I cant get into windows 98. i hope i just
about covered everything. anyones help would be greatly appreciated. if i can
at least get wondows 98 up i can go in and install the upgrade. I allready
tried to reinstall win98 but the C: drive has been chenged to NTFS which is
the underlieing problem. I think. well any input will help. the only thing i
can think of to do next is FORMATTING.. which i hope i dont have to do.
seeing as i didnt back up like a ding bat... lol weel thank in advance for
your help!

Carey i have gone through the links you gave these really dont help me at ths
point. What i need to do. Is i have to be able to get win98 back up and then
i can go in and start the upgrade over by istalling it to the right
directory. is there anyway of being able to do this? i am at wits end LOL and
need a little bit of guidence.
thenk you for your help in my lil dilemma....

Which drive had W98 on it?
If it was C, and it is now NTFS, W98 is poof.
You would have to fdisk, format FAT32 and reinstall W98; then install XP
again, NOT as an upgrade.

Both the upgrade install and the dual boot install would not change the
file system *unless* you deleted the existing FAT32 partition and then
formatted.

If your Win98/C: drive is still FAT32, you might still be able to fix this.
See Doug Knox's page for directions on retrofitting Win9x onto a WinXP
system. You're working the other way around - adding XP to a Win98 system-
but it could still help you figure out what needs to be changed and where:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_repair_9x.htm

Run fdisk from a MS-DOS bootdisk to get some partition info (do not make
changes, just run it to get the info). If C: shows as "non-MSDOS" then it
is no longer FAT32, you didn't do what you think you did and recovering the
Win98 install is out of the question.

Well i was able to figure out what i had done wrong. the other day i went
into Fdisk and changed a couple of things. i remember this after the fact and
went back in and changed them back. everything installed ok allthough i
wasnt able to do a dual boot like i wanted to. I had everything set up to go
on the D: drive and it did. when i shut down the first 2 times the promt came
up whr i could choose either win98 or winXP then the third time it went
right into win98 and the promt failed to show up. So i gbasically gave up and
just went with the upgrade. i now have winxp loaded and it seems to be
working fine...... So Far.... LOL i lost the D: drive because it was
converted to NTFS and it still isnt showing up in windows explorer but right
about now i dont care. Maybe in a month when i need more space i will.... LOL
well anyways thank you to everyone who has helped me through this whole
ordeal.
i truly appreciate all you have done!

Thank Again,
XFF_Mordakai

Steve.
