Hotmail

Used to access my Hotmail account using Windows Mail. After re-installing my
O/S, Windows Vista Home Premium, I can no longer set this up. When I get to
the point where it asks for my e-mail address I input this, click on next,
and the message "Windows Mail no longer supports the http servers used by
Hotmail......."
I remember this happened when I bought my computer but managed to get round
it, but can't remember how. I have a paid subscription to Windows Live
Onecare and believe this is something to do with the "paid " subscription
referred to on other threads.
Any advice ??

Try these settings below and if your Hotmail account is actually,
"(e-mail address removed)", you may have to enter a phony one (put an "x" in there
somewhere) and then change it after the setup is completed. This
"work-around" is due to some adverse programming specific to those accounts.

Live.com Settings:

Server names and ports:
POP3 = pop3.live.com Port = 995
SMTP = smtp.live.com Port = 587

Checkboxes you need to check include:

Server Tab: "My server requires authentication" (Click "Settings" button
also and fill in "Log on Using" email address - *** but do NOT check the
checkboxes there . . . .)

Advanced Tab: BOTH outgoing and incoming - "This server requires a secure
connection (SSL)"

General Tab (if desired but generally recommended): "Include this account
when receiving mail or synchronizing"

Should work - if you get errors post the entire error message (cut-n-paste)
for further assistance.

According to this post you are hotmail so you should be able to use these
same settings. One caveat - the programs have been hard-coded to not accept
@hotmail.com accounts. To work around this, put an "x" in that somewhere,
like @xhotmail.com, and then correct it after the setup is finished.
