Windows Vista Mail, Hotmail Plus

How can I link my Window Live Mail Beta (service of Hotmail) to Windows Vista
Mail? When I tried to set up my mail account in Vista I got a pop up window
that said Windows Mail would no longer link to HTTP accounts, but when I
opened another window it said it would no longer link to FREE accounts. I
have a paid Hotmail account. Thanks.

Vista's Windows Mail does not support http accounts(free or fee based).
Windows Live Mail is a standalone client to be used independently of Windows Mail. The only other alternative in Vista is Outlook 03 or 07 for fee based Hotmail http accounts.

Thanks, one more question: I have MS Office 2000 which includes Outlook.
Could I install this and use it as my default mail server, and hook hotmail
up that way? Thanks in advance.

hi guys...sorry - i still don't get it. I have now followed that link to the
"beta" hotmail, and i am STILL doing circles - how can i get it so that i can
send emails directly from a website - without being forced into opening a
new email account and not just use my hotmail?? I am still getting the same
messages even though i have done both this "beta" hotmail, as mentioned
below, and followed the link in "other options" after the "we don't support
hotmail" message.
Could someone just walk me through everything i need to do in a step by step
way?
Not very computer savvy female here....
thanks

Did you actually download and install Windows Live Mail instead of
just "followed that link"?
If you installed it, then clicking on a 'MailTo' link in a website
should work.

Write back if after installing Windows Live Mail there are parts that don't
work as you expect.

Windows Mail & Windows Live Mail are email desktop clients that download
email from servers on the internet. The mail is stored on your computer
(except for IMAP). Some people have a Hotmail account, that they want to
access and download their mail to their computer. Windows Mail can't do
that, but Windows Live Mail can.

If you just want to use Hotmail on their website(http://login.live.com),
just got to it using Internet Explorer, and forget about Windows Mail & Live
Mail.

Glad you got it working with Windows Live Mail.
To answer your earlier question.
- No..OL2000 does not support http access. OL03 or greater does and only for fee or grandfathered hotmail accounts.

Thanks Michael

I was aware of it, maybe should have mentioned it even though the op was using OL2000.

Though fee based accounts using the OLC beta get some additional benefits(manage, share, sync calendar, tasks and notes). The non beta version for fee based accounts also includes OL02.

And finally, I should have added this for clarity.....if one has OL02,03 or 07 and their Live Mail account was also a prior Hotmail account that was grandfathered before access was shut off for new http accounts then OL02,03, and 07 functions for sending/retrieving those accounts and uses the OL contacts(local stored pst file) without the need of the OL Connector. Though calendar, contacts etc are not sync with the online data stored on msn servers.
