Hot key underlines don't show at runtime.

Hi All,

I'm going through Microsoft Visual Basic .NET Step by Step Version 2003 by
Halvorson. I have performed a Chapter 4 exercise according to the
instructions exactly. Using the & character before the desired hot key
character in MainMenu1 mnu????Item Text property. The hot key shows in
Form1.vb Design mode on all items created. However, when I run the project
and get no compile errors, the hot keys are not underlined as displayed on
the form in Design View. The keys work but the underline is missing on the
character that has been designated as the hot key.

What has been left out of the instructions or what have I failed to set and
where?

Thanks for the help.

Hi,

This is not the answer you were looking for but.......I have the same book
and just quickly added the menu (exercise from p.102 - Add access keys). It
works as stated on my form, which leads me to believe it must be a either a
form attribute or maybe something within your dev IDE.....otherwise, like
you, I am none the wiser!

Good luck,

Phil

I had this problem ,someone on this group pointed out it is a Windows
2000/ xP feature

Right at this minute I cannot remember how you enable/ disable it but
will try to remember. The weirdest thing is that Visual Studio
development environment ignores the feature!

Here it is

2. Why are there no letters underlined in the menu items?
The Windows option to show menu keys that can be accessed by holding
down the Alt key is switched off. To turn it on, select Start, Control
Panel, Display, Appearance tab, Effects button, and uncheck the box next
to “Hide underlined letters for keyboard navigation until I press the
Alt key”.
