Hosts File

I am running Windows Xp op system. I have added a line into my hosts
file to resolve to my AS400. Save the file and the exit hosts. The
AS400 is then availeable.
If I shut down my pc and restart the host file entry that I just made
has disappeared.


Why ?????

Hi -

I can't think of anything in Windows XP that'd overwrite
a hosts file. Are you sure the hosts file isn't being
overwritten by a login script when you log on to the
machine? Checking the timestamp on the hosts file might
give you an idea. Talking to your network guys might
also help.

try making the hosts file read-only.
that might prevent it from being overwritten.

Maybe some application is hijacking your HOST file.
Install and run Spybot "Search and Destroy", you can
download it at download.com this may solve your problem.
