hosts file seems not to be used anymore....

Hi everybody,

Something weird happened on my laptop last night...

After testing (successfully) a wifi pcmcia card on my laptop, i
uninstalled it (hardware+software)

The morning after, once I was connected to the lan at work, I realized
that I couldn't reach a server anymore.
The name is in my hosts file. When I ping the name, it says it can't
find it ! ( a ping on the ip address works)
That means it doesn't read the hosts file anymore !!!

I tried a netsh int ip reset.
I uninstalled the network card.

I have no idea what's going on...

Any idea ?
Thanks.
Regards.
Eric.

It happened in two computers in my network. In one of them, I ran winsockfix
and re-entered the IP and name in the hosts file, but it didn't work... so I
made a system restore; I had to re-enter the IP and server name in the hosts
file again, but this time it worked! :)

I haven't been lucky with the other PC, I ran all the spyaware programs I
had, winsockfix, etc, but still the PC can't ping the server name. I had no
system restore points in this machine, so I can't run the system restore
utility.

Please let me know if you find a solution for this!, good luck!
