Hello

I added 127.0.0.1 www.cnn.com entry to my HOSTS file then restart and
clear the browser cache , when test to ping www.cnn.com, i correctly receive
replies from my own machine on 127.0.0.1 which should indicates that hosts
file works fine, but when browse to www.cnn.com, i still CAN connect to the
site , how is that possible ??!!

thank you
Bassam

Bassam,
"how is that possible"
Because the site loads from several different servers.
You can see this if you "View Source" from their site.

You would also have to add those servers to completely block CNN.
[Example]
127.0.0.1 i.a.cnn.net
127.0.0.1 i.cnn.net

The below 2 entries are also used by CNN:
127.0.0.1 ar.atwola.com #[ad server]
127.0.0.1 ping.nnselect.com #[site tracker]
