Hosts File - Adding IP Addresses

L

Leonard Grey

Using the Hosts file in the way you are thinking of will spare your
computer the need to check your ISP's DNS server to resolve hostnames
into IP addresses. That will certainly speed your access to the
internet...by a few hundredths of a second.

test.com and test.com/test2 use the same IP address. The test 2 is simply a
folder or subweb.

:I recently saw where one could add IP addresses and their URLs to the
: Hosts file to speed access (i.e, 12.3.45.6 www.test.com). If the
: actual URL is www.test.com/test2 (for which I couldn't find the actual
: IP address), would adding the IP address for www.test.com help?
:
: Thanks for any help.

'test2' is a page on the valid IP address of 'www.test.com.' Every
page on the web will not have their own IP address since by the sheer
number of web pages out there, the Internet would have been out of
valid IP addresses years ago.
