Hosting Help

Hello everyone,

I'm looking to renew my hosting package and as I'm still fumbling in the
dark I wondered if you guys could help?

I am using Frontapge 2003 and have just got Vista Home Premium. My previous
package was with 123-reg.co.uk and their customer service and general help
wasn't good.
Looking around there are lots of different technical bumf that I don't
understand well yet.

My site is 10 pages with hopefully the opportunity to extend and it needs a
photo gallery. What MB should I aim for? Does Vista support FTP2003 or is
it all Expression Web now? I don't want to sign up to something if I can't
use it!

Is there a web hosting comparism site that anyone can recomend?

Also how easy is it to transfer from one hosting company to another? As
I've never done it it would be good to know what to expect!

Thanks in advance for any help.

I use FP2003 and Expression Web, hosted on http://www.webhost4life.com

Webhost4life is based in USA and considerably cheaper than most UK hosts
considering the features provided.
I have never had a serious problem, and service (using email) is good -
there is 24/7 telephone as well (free if you use VOIP such as Skype or
Vonage with Worldwide package)

Ease of transferring from one host to another depends on where your
domain is registered. If it's registered with 123-reg you may have
problems, depending on their policy. As a general rule, never register
your domain with the company you host with - don't register a domain
with webhost4life if you intend to host with them.

There is a known problem with running FP2003 on Vista - a tendency to
crash when adding a hyperlink using the hyperlink dialogue. This does
not affect everybody (as far as I know), and there are no problems
reported with Expression Web.
