Host file

I need to test connectivity to an intranet site but I
don't want to create a host file on the DNS server that
would give users access to the site just yet. Can I
create a www host file on my PC that would allow me to
test connectivity to this site?

You must grant/deny the access to the web site from the particuar
networks/hosts. RTFM of the web server whatever it is IIS or Apache.
