Ok let me try this again as I can't find my original post but I found a
reply from bern that has nothing to do with what I'm asking so hopefully
this one doesn't vanish...

As part of the manufacturers driver and program set for my sounblaster live
sound card is a program called AudioHQ which when launched enables all the
mixer functions etc of my sound card. The file name is ahqtbu.exe and is set
up to automatically launch on startupfor all users. What I want to do is set
a group policy or whatever is applicable so that any user on my machine,
admin or not will not have the ability to close this program. I want it to
be running the entire time any user is logged on. I understand that someone
with administrative capabilities would be able to close it if they knew how
because of the nature of an admin account. Can anyone tell me or guide me to
somewhere that can tell me how to do this?

TIA

Guess not......
You will have to create an account that is limited to the programs you
want to run, with policies set to restrict users from running
administrative programs and restrict various access to programs, etc.
You'll need WinXP Pro because Home doesn't include the Group Policy
Editor (gpedit.msc). There isn't any way that I know of that you can
force a user with administrative privileges to run a program. I suppose
you have a good reason for wanting this program to always run - it's
one of the first things I turn off when I install an SB card on one of
my systems, but that's your choice.

HTH,

Thanks for your reply Malke. Since there's probably no way to do it the way
I'd like to, is it possible to make this program run as a background task
and load on startup as it does now but have no icon shows up in the
notification area and the program can only be closed through the task
manager?

You could put it in the startup folder to make it start automatically, but
as far as not showing an icon, that's up to the program.

Although I am curious...why do you want every user to be forced to have this
piece of baggage running?

it starts automatically for all users on my machine right now

I use my PC as a jukebox quite a bit, I have a playlist consisting of mp3s
on my hard drive as well as saved onto a cd-r and like them to play whenh
i'm doing stuff other than watching tv and not using my pc, and my g/f has
an account on here and she gets on when i'm not and i'll have her play my
playlist so i can still listen to my music, but she closes everything in the
notification area besides my av program. i have 2 speakers built in to my
monitor and 2 other speakers with a sub. up until now i thought it
actually sounded better with the program running because a few times when it
was closed only my monitor speakers would work. i use wmp 9 with (mostly) no
trouble and thought it's eq etc. made the music sound crappy, but i'm
playing music right now as i type without audiohq running and i'm starting
to change my views on creative's software.......lol thanks for your help
though and thanks also to you and malke for helping me "see the light" on
this "piece of baggage" It will most likely be off my machine or disabled by
week's end.
