no sound

I have a compaq desktop computer have no sound. I have
checked the sound card and drivers said that it is
working ok. Sound card is creative SB live Series (WDM)
Sounblaster live 5.1. I have the sound card drivers on Cd
should I try to un-install and re-install drivers? Hooked
up a new set of speakers still dose not work volume
control is not mute. Need some ideas to try thanks
