Hope Microsoft looks at this!

I have been using your product for as long as it has been available. I
figured it was something new, bold, and effective. I must say that while I
was hoping for that I also used my old program Adaware as backup. I have
found that while your software shows my machine daily to be "free of spyware"
it is usually anything but that! I will run adaware after your program is
done to check for spyware and usually get between 5-7 spyware programs a day
your software does not get. I think it is irresponsible for you to let people
think your beta is "protecting" them when it clearly is not. I hope you will
let everyone know that this is just a work in progress and really does not
protect anyones computer from spyware. I was looking forward to an integrated
product that would work and I sure hope someday it will.

If you are getting 5 to 7 spyware infections per day, the irresponsible
party is YOU!

You don't mention WHAT Ad-Aware detects that MSAS does not. The omission
was probably deliberate because the "undetected" pests are just .txt cookie
files that you already know are not identified to the user by MSAS because,
of course, you already researched the problem by looking in the newsgroups
or Googling before you posted.

This is asked almost every day. And it is always the same response. This
is One BIG reason why I don't like Public betas anymore. There are so many
idiots out there that do not do the leg work before they ask a question. It
is a huge difference between a private OneCare or Office 12 beta, and a
open MSAS beta.

Jeff,
Could you give us an idea of some of the spyware your other AntiSpyware
utility is finding that Microsoft AntiSpyware is not detecting? If its
anything to do with cookies, that is known issue, beta 1 does not detect
cººkies.

Without a specific name it will be difficult for someone to help identify it
as spyware or nºt.

For Ad-Aware, Click the lock icon from the main menu and open the Quarantine
files.

Let us know how it works ºut.

:
I run ad-aware on a semi regular bases, the latest results were all "crtical
objects" (10) were cookie related. They also list MRU items, which they
clearly state are not spyware. An example of this is
Name:MRU List
Category:Spyware
Object Type:MRU RegReference
Size:-
Location:...\global\nview\windowmanagement\
Last Activity:
Relevance:Negligible
TAC index:0
Comment:nvidia nview cached application window positions
Description:Most Recently Used List.

The reason that there is such a repeat of questions and "problems" is
because so many people using MSAS don't really know the meaning of BETA,
Maybe MS should ask for a definition of what BETA means prior to allow the
downloading of the software, I personally rhink it would weed out many of
the people who are downloading MSAS. I feel sorry for Bill Anderson and all
the MVP's who must have infinite patience answering the same questions month
after month, There are many who are disgusted with the open BETA, A great
amount of effort is wasted because of uncontrolled questionsby people who
don't understand what BETA means.
