Homepage Defaults to: "about:blank"

Every time I open Internet Explorer the homepage has been
changed back to "about:blank". I can change it in
properties and get out to the internet, but it just
changes back to "about:blank" each time I close the
browser. When "about:blank" web page opens up there is a
pop-up window that appears showing that my computer has
been affected by spyware. I have downloaded Spybot and
run their fixes with no success. I was told by Comcast
that they heard this was a Windows bug, but there is no
help at the Microsoft tech support.

AD-AWARE from LAVASOFT catches something like you are describing in their
scan.

It is reliable and does a good job. If you don't have it already, you might
give it a try . . . . it's free too.

Good Luck

THANKS TOM! That was the other one I was going to try that I hadn't installed yet.

I'm having the same problem and can't access certain
websites like hotmail, yahoo mail and amazon. I can login
to the mail, but the minute the page start to load it
jump to "about:blank" straight away. I've try Lavasoft,
but it doesn't help.

Does anybody have any other suggestions?

I have been trying to get my address bar search back for weeks! I finally
got it back Following the link
http://www.malwarebytes.biz/forums/index.php?showtopic=131

I was able to use a program called HiJACK THIS. I deleted all the entries
it suggested were bogus, and I bet there are more bogus entries there as
well, but after learning all I have about where the bad registry entries
would be, I GOT THEM.... BAM!

What a great feeling to have the address bar search back to normal.

THANK YOU FOR DIRECTING ME TO THE SITE. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK Y OU.

I have been battling with the same problem, but finally came up with two
solutions.
1. Install AVG6, which I fould to be the most effective anti virus tool, and
it's free.
Secondly, if the unwanted site keeps on coming back, turn off "system
restore"(My Computer - Properties), then go to regedit, BACK IT UP and look
for the offending file. Remove it and exit. Reboot and then you can turn on
"system restore again. Believe me, it worked. After that AVG did all the work
automatically.
